I am very impressed with the first version of Parmesan. It works great and I really like its interface & the animated icons and all that stuff I do not have in Grapevine. Great!

I do have a small problem though: There have been problems with MSN sometimes and to help me find out if things are working OK I have added myself to my own contacts. Parmesan does not seem to like that, and errors occur when trying to chat to myself. (“That user is already in your friend list”). I’ve seen it crash once or twice, which I suspect also might have the same cause.

But it is not /that/ useful to chat with myself, so I’ll survive that :-)

A small feature request: It would be great if it supported ”/me”. MSN Messenger and Parmesan are the only IM clients I know of that do not support ”/me”.

Cheers,
Jan-Jaap

Thanks :-)

Parmesan has no objection to you adding yourself to your contacts list, that should work fine (I did the same thing here for a while). The MSN servers won’t let you actually talk to yourself though, even on the Official Client – but the wording of the error message is mine, since the same error code is used for several different circumstances. You can block yourself, which is fun.

It certainly shouldn’t crash – there aren’t any crash bugs left that I know of, so if it does crash please let me know the details of how.

As for /me – I imagine you mean similar to the command in IRC? Can you do that in the Official Client? I think the VERY latest MSN protocols have the capability to send “action messages” but I’m not certain how you get the client to do it.

Well, it crashed the very first time I used Parmesan to log onto MSN. I think it might have been followed by the “That user … ” error or something, because I certainly got the idea that the crash might have been related to that. However I cannot reproduce and I am not sure I remember correctly, so I suppose you should just forget about that one… I’ll let you know if I have something more reproducable.

The other crash happened also when playing with myself (errrr…) so that could be an indication that it has something to do with that. But then again…

Yes, I did mean the IRC-/me. You cannot do that with MSN msg, live msg but you can with Gaim, Trillian & Grapevine.

I have never looked at the protocols but I imagine the clients that support it just recognise the ”/me” text at the start of the message. But that is only guessing…

Cheers,
Jan-Jaap
